Here are the humble, ordinary, everyday working people Rockwell respeted, enjoying a momemnt of fantasy in a world of wealth and extravagance that will never be theirs. When Rockwell painted this cover, he felt that most Post readers would identify with the pair of plumbers rather than the owner of the boudoir. The owner is gone for the day, but her Pekingese is keeping an eye on things and seeking some protection behind the waste-basket. It is obvious that the room belongs to a society woman who probably spends much time primping at her mirror. The Laurel-and-Hardy-type antics of our two comic characters provide a break from the humdrum tasks they perform.
